Colossians 1:12-13
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated [us] into the kingdom of his dear Son:(KJV)
The scripture points it all out clearly. God the father hath DELIVERED US from the power of darkness . How did God do this? Read the next two verses.
Colossians 1:14-15
In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:(KJV)
So by the blood of Jesus shed on the cross of calvary and offered to the father as a sacrifice once and for all, we were perpetually put far above the devil and his cohorts.
The devil CANNOT possess a Christian. Listen, the devil was once in heaven, and he understands authority, he may lie to his agents that he is god and deceive them, but the truth is the devil knows who God is. The devil also knew when Jesus hung on that cross. When God said “this is beloved son in whom I am well pleased, hear ye him”, God was talking to everything in the cosmos, including the devil and his demons. Jesus casted out demons, no demon possessed him, he spoiled principalities and powers- made a public spectacle of them. Jesus is God and you live in him, just as he lives in you.
Acts 17:28
For in him we live, and move, and have our being...(KJV)
So how can you live in God and God live in you say you need “deliverance”?
Galatians 1:3-4
Grace [be] to you and peace from God the Father, and [from] our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:(KJV)
I know someone may be asking “But we have seen several manifestation of demons in the lives of many Christians today, are you saying those ‘things’, that the pastors casts out are not demons?”
There’s a difference between being under the influence of a demon and being possessed by a demon.
When you possess a possession, you take total control of that property. You fill it all in all. You now decide the happenings in that property, every square inch of that property is now under your jurisdiction. This cannot happen to a Christian. Man is a spirit, he has a soul, though he lives in a body. The core of man is his spirit. The soul is the bridge between the spirit and the body. The soul comprises emotions, mind and will. The mind is the seat of intelligence while the body is the outward casing of man.
When you get born again, the holy ghost comes into you and he lives in you.
2 Corinthians 6:16
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.(KJV)
So you belong to God. You were bought with a price.
1 Corinthians 6:20
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.(KJV)
1 Corinthians 7:23
Ye are bought with a price...(KJV)
You are God’s property. This property is God’s possessed possession. You cannot sell your soul to the devil because he says
Ezekiel 18:4
Behold, all souls are mine…
So you cannot sell your soul to the devil.
Acts 2:1-4
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.(KJV)
In Acts 2:1-4, notice the word “filled”- filled with God. It’s like you have a bottle and you filled the bottle with water, you then say, the bottle is filled with water.
This was why at the wedding in Cana, what Jesus told those servants was
John 2:7
… Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.(KJV)
So the container holding the water was full of water, and Jesus said to them
John 2:8
Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare [it].(KJV)
What was the next thing that happened.
John 2:9
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine…(KJV)
The water became wine.
What does wine refer to in the scriptures?
Ephesians 5:18
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;(KJV)
Wine refers to the spirit. So Jesus was showing us that the vessel of man (his body), is the dwelling place of the spirit. Just as those vessels were filled with wine we are FILLED with the spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:19
... know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?(KJV).
But can a Christian filled with the spirit of God be influenced by a demon. The answer is YES.
The word here is “influence” not “possess”. What’s the difference? Calm down, I’d explain.
When someone is under the influence of a demon, it means the person has yielded his MIND (the seat of his intelligence) to a demon. How does this happen? The person starts processing thoughts from a demon. To the person, he’s just “thinking”, but what he does not know is that any thinking that is not on the word or on the principle of the word of God is from a demon.
Let’s look at a real life scenario. The guy is walking on the street one day and the demon suggests to him, “why not try marijuana, it does not kill you know”, to him he’d say “I was thinking about it”, but the truth is that those thought were being suggested by a demon. So, he gives in to it. The next day, the demon suggests to him again, “try it again” and he yields. As long as he keeps yielding his thoughts to the demon, it would get to a point that his mind would become saturated with those demonic ideas. At that point his defences would have been totally broken, and he just find himself acting the demons instructions without hesitation.
This does not mean, the brother is possessed by the demon, it means he is obsessed by the demon. It’s obsession not possession. When you first met your wife, you were obsessed by her, she was everywhere in your mind. You think of her even when you are defecating in the toilet. When you go to bed, you see her in your dreams, she is real to you, though she might be overseas. You hear her voice, even when she is not around. These are all products of obsessions. But in reality, it does not mean she possessed you, you are just obsessed by her.
This is the exact scenario of that guy whose mind has been obsessed by the devil. In reality, you are not possessed by the devil but because you have so processed information from a demon, you now see, hear, dream a demon all because you gave your mind over to the demon.
So what’s the solution?
Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.(KJV)
RENEW YOUR MIND! Think on the word of God. Take that bible open it, study it and process thoughts and information that comes out of the bible.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.(KJV)
The word of God is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report and filled with virtue and praise. So your thinking MUST be on the word.
The reason why pastors and preachers would cast out the demon from people is because Jesus says “Cast Out Demons”, The people that Jesus casted out demons from were not born again. It is an insult on Christianity for a child of God filled with the Holy Ghost to be obsessed by a demon, because of laziness on his part to saturate his mind with the word of God. In the early church there was no such thing as “deliverance ministry”, because the people were men and women of the word.
Jeremiah 23:29
Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces?(KJV)
So when the word of God saturates your mind, you will NEVER need deliverance, because your mind has been saturated with the word of God, your mind is a FIRE. The demons run away naturally. But when the word is absent or in short supply; you say “the bible says ….emmmm the bible says…. Ehmmmmm”, then you start scratching your head. The demon then suggests “why not tear that your certificate afterall, you have tried to get a job but nothing”, because your mind is already yielded to the demon, as intelligent as the person might be, he’d hold his certificate that took him 10 years to get and tear it into pieces. The next day, he gets a call to come for an interview but should come with every certification gotten, he goes to the interviews, but never gets the job, and the demon is just laughing, because he has obsessed your mind. Then someone takes him to pastor for “deliverance”; the man of God simply uses a higher knowledge on the demon and asks “it” to leave, but if you do not go back and put the word of God within, I assure you, that demon would come back with at least seven other demons more deadly than himself.
Listen, flies don’t perch on hot stoves. When the fire of God word fills your mind, the demons would look for someone else. Your 8 hours in the office is not as important as your 3 hours of study of God’s word
Discipline your mind, to think ONLY on the word of God and live as the delivered that God has made you.
